The biggest family history event in the world kicks off in just seven days time in Salt Lake City, Utah.

First started in 2011, RootsTech draws thousands of family historians from around the world each year.

The four-day event, organised by FamilySearch, features an unbeatable range of talks by famous figures inside and outside the world of genealogy, as well as over 200 breakout session for all levels of experience and the chance to visit hundreds of family history organisations and companies at their stalls.

Of course, not all of us can afford the price of a ticket and a trip to Utah.

But the good news is, the growth of the Internet means that there's lots of ways you can follow all the action at RootsTech from your home computer.

First of all, RootsTech has announced that it will live-stream many of the talks free of charge.

Of particular interest to British genealogists are Myko Clelland's talk 'Findmypast's British and Irish Hidden Gems' on 1 March, and 'Civil Registration Indexes of England and Wales' by Audrey Collins on 2 March.

You can also access the handouts for the lectures on the free RootsTech App.

If you're on Twitter, you can follow what's happening and talk to fellow genealogists using the hashtags #RootsTech, #RootsTech2018 and #NotAtRootsTech.

This is also a great way to keep an eye out for family history companies that are running RootsTech promotional offers or competitions.

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine will be visiting RootsTech, so if you are going to attend, don't forget to visit the Family Wise stand in the Expo Hall.

You'll be able to see sample copies of the magazine and take out a show exclusive offer for overseas subscribers offering 35% off the normal subscription price.

Whether you're attending in person or staying at home, we hope you learn something new from RootsTech to help uncover your family history!
