It's possible to find details of emigrants on Canadian census records or records of marriages and deaths.

Returns for 1851–1901, 1906 (northwest provinces) and 1911 list name, with age, gender, country or place of birth, occupation and marital status. The 1901 and 1911 returns also include date of birth, year of immigration and addressor location of land.

Search returns for 1851, 1901, 1906, and 1911 at www.ancestry.ca. The Library & Archives Canada have databases online for 1901, 1906 and 1911 at www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy.

Provinces and territories keep their own civil records from the late 1800s. Prior to that, births, marriages and deaths were recorded in parish registers. Find indexes at www.ancestry.ca
